Curtains Curtains So Many Curtains... What Should I Buy?
The most obvious starting point in your quest for the perfect window coverings is to think about the room they are going to be hanging in. If you're renovating then you have a slight advantage because you already have existing furnishings in the room to match the curtains with. Look at your carpets and other furnishings, unless you want to have an eclectic looking room your curtains should match in shade to your floors. Not saying that everything has to be color coded, but try and stick to the color wheel principles.
Cream curtains are a very popular choice because they are so neutral they match almost anything. Obviously if you're decorating your cosy library with wood panelling and dark carpets, cream curtains are going to look out of place, but in most other circumstances cream curtains really look a treat!
Another increasingly popular choice is silk curtains, these are not practical in all rooms as they don't block out a lot of light, but if you're looking for a curtain to give your room a certain look instead of the actual usefulness of a curtain, then certainly look at silk curtains as a viable option.
Don't forget about ready made curtains, these are an easy option and there are so many styles to choose from. You can buy them at your local hardware & furnishing store or your local curtain outlet. They can often be a much cheaper option than custom made designs.
To use Net Curtains or not?
Personally I don't like net curtains so I don't have them anywhere in my house. My mother would argue that people can look straight in the house! My answer to that is to have tinted windows. Net curtains are just not the look I want in my house. They do however have their place, they're somewhat useful for keeping insects out and they do afford a level of privacy.
As a classier alternate to net curtains; sheer curtains can be used, they look a lot more modern and still provide the same benefit as the old fashioned net curtains.
